Create a new comparison

A comparison allows you to compare two versions of a website, for example before and after an update. To create a new comparison, select "Create a new comparison" in the home screen.

Step 1

In the first step of creating a new comparison you can enter:

• The name of the comparison: it will be shown in the home screen
• Elements to remove selectors: the CSS selectors of the elements that you want to remove before comparing the web pages
• Visual acquisition speed: use slower values if the website has some slow animations
• Hide fixed elements on scroll: intelligently removes fixed elements such as the header of the website
• Hide known cookie banners: removes the most common cookie banners before comparing the web pages
• Stop video playback: so that they will not interfere with the web pages comparison

If you have any doubts, use the default settings.

Step 2

In the second step of creating a new comparison you can enter the web pages that you want to compare. For each web page you can enter:

• The name of the web page: it will be shown in the report
• URL Version 1: for example, the URL of the web page on the production server
• URL Version 2: for example, the URL of the web page on your testing server or local environment

WebDiff runs locally, so you can compare web pages on your computer (localhost), or accessible via VPN or local network.

You can enter the same URL for both version 1 and version 2: WebDiff allows you to analyze the same page at different times.

To insert multiple web pages, click on the "Add web page" button.

Step 3

In the third step of creating a new comparison you can review all the information that you inserted in the previous steps. If everything looks ok select "Save comparison": a success screen will confirm that the comparison has been saved correclty.
